Mattias Mandorfer

Mattias Mandorfer, MD PhD, has been interested in hepatology since medical school. After spending a year abroad at Heidelberg University, Germany, Dr. Mandorfer received his MD degree from the Medical University of Vienna in 2012. Over the course of his clinical training at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Medical University of Vienna, Dr. Mandorfer gained significant experience in the management of cirrhosis, portal hypertension and its complications, viral hepatitis, as well as liver disease due to alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency. These fields also developed into his primary research interests. He obtained his PhD degree and venia docendi (gastroenterology and hepatology) in 2017 and 2018, respectively. In 2019, Dr. Mandorfer spent 9 months as a fellow at the Barcelona Hepatic Hemodynamic Lab at Hospital Clínic to expand his clinical/scientific expertise in this field. Despite his young age (32 years), Dr. Mandorfer has authored 22 and 48 original articles in peer reviewed journals as first/corresponding and co-author, respectively, as well as a series of review articles, editorials, and letters to the editor. His contributions to hepatology have been distinguished by several awards from national and international societies and he is a member of the Billroth III (Austrian treatment recommendations for portal hypertension) and Baveno VII faculty.
