Salvatore Piano M.D., Ph.D. is Assistant Professor of Medicine and Consultant Hepatologist at the Unit of Internal Medicine and Hepatology (UIMH), Department of Medicine - DIMED, University of Padova, Italy. He is currently involved in clinical and experimental research in the setting of liver diseases. His main interests are the pathophysiology and the treatment of complications of liver cirrhosis: ascites, circulatory dysfunction, acute kidney injury, hepatorenal syndrome, bacterial infections and acute on chronic liver failure. He has been involved in clinical trials on the management of ascites, spontaneous bacterial peritonitis and hepatorenal syndrome. On 2015, he has been research fellow at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona (Spain). He was supported by the EASL A.K. Burroughs Short-term training fellowship bursary. The results of his work have been published in indexed international journals such as Lancet, Gastroenterology, Gut, Hepatology, Journal of Hepatology, and American Journal of Gastroenterology. He has been invited speaker at International Meeting such as the European Association of the Study of the Liver (EASL) meeting, American Association of the Study of the Liver (AASLD) and Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) meeting. He is member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Hepatology, JHEP reports and Liver Transplantation.
